Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Originally from Poltava, Ukraine, Dr. Prokopets grew up in Scottsdale, AZ after coming to the United States at a young age. As a fourth-generation female dentist, this type of work is certainly in her family’s blood. As a child, she saw the positive impact that quality dental work could have on not only a person’s health, but their general wellbeing. It didn’t take her very much time at all to determine that this field was what she wanted to dedicate her life to as well.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Prokopets earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery at Marquette University. She then underwent a residency at one of the most prestigious hospitals in the entire country: Columbia University—New York Presbyterian Hospital. There, she became well-acquainted with several types of specialty dentistry, including emergency medicine, oral surgery, and general anesthesia.
Following this advanced training, Dr. Prokopets had a particular desire to focus on transformative dental implant technology. This led her to pursue her Master’s in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry at Louisiana State University. She is also Board-Certified in these specialties. Her education includes dedicated training in all aspects of implantology (including sinus elevation, microsurgery, bone grafting, and full-mouth rehabilitation) and laser dentistry (including gum recontouring, periodontal therapy, and ulcer treatment).
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
When she isn’t busy at work, Dr. Prokopets devotes a lot of her time to fitness and health. It’s easy to find her running, biking, and doing yoga all around the greater Washington, D.C. area. Her other hobbies include trying brand-new restaurants, meeting new people, and regularly participating in community outreach programs.
