iTero 5 Digital Impressions

iTero 5 digital scanner

If you’ve ever had a dental crown or oral appliance made, you likely have had to endure getting putty impressions. This tedious process not only takes a significant amount of time, but also often involves discomfort for the patient, who must sit absolutely still. Otherwise, the impressions could be faulty, leading to a bad mold and ill-fitting restoration or appliance. With our iTero 5 machine, we can digitally scan the inside of your mouth and have a perfectly precise mold within minutes! No goop and no discomfort—just accurate data to help you smile.

Sleep Apnea Therapy

Many people don’t realize that their dentist may actually be the first line of defense against untreated sleep apnea. This is because obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is directly caused by a full or partial blockage in the airway, which means that Dr. Kiani can often detect tell-tale signs during oral exams. If you have been positively diagnosed, she can also design a custom-made oral appliance that helps to reposition the jaw and maintain easy, uninterrupted breathing throughout the night without any rude awakenings.

TMJ Therapy

TMJ disorder (also sometimes referred to as simply TMD) is a serious and oftentimes debilitating health problem that’s caused by dysfunction and strain in the temporomandibular joints. These joints connect your jaw to your skull and are necessary for chewing, speaking, and other essential everyday actions. If you are experiencing significant facial pain on a regular basis, please don’t hesitate to let our doctors know so that we can assess the health of your TMJ. Therapy options are available if needed, including personalized occlusal splints and equilibration (bite adjustment).

Oral Sedation

Dental fear and anxiety are sadly common among people of all ages, and the most extreme cases can result in skipped appointments and gradually worsening oral health. Here in Falls Church, our team is committed to maintaining a spa-like environment where comfort and relaxation are always top priorities. When needed, sedation dentistry can be provided as an additional calming agent that helps the treatment process proceed smoothly. Oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) are available upon request.

Intraoral Cameras

Intraoral cameras are highly valuable educational tools that Dr. Kiani and her team members regularly utilize during examinations. The camera will capture high-resolution images of the inside of your mouth and transfer them to a monitor in the operatory for easy access. This allows us to refer to them when discussing important findings and possible treatment options for added clarity. Additionally, they can help our doctors diagnose and pinpoint dental concerns that may have been missed by the naked eye at first glance.

Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays on tablet computer

At Purple Plum Dentistry, the days of traditional film X-rays have been left safely in the past. We’re happy to now use digital radiography for a much-improved patient experience! Now, comprehensively detailed X-rays can be captured and made available for viewing within mere seconds – no time-consuming darkrooms required. If you and your family are concerned about radiation exposure, rest assured that this technology minimizes it to a negligible amount as well for your safety.

CBCT Scanner

Digital X-Rays are an essential diagnostic tool for dentists, but in some cases, they do not provide the level of detail that is necessary in order to perform complex procedures. That is where our CBCT scanner comes into the picture. This remarkable machine uses a cone-shaped beam of radiation to produce extremely detailed, three-dimensional images of both a patient’s hard and soft tissues.

We can use the CBCT scanner for a number of different purposes, but it is especially useful in the dental implants process. It can help for a precise implant placement surgery, thus minimizing your risk of complications and making for the most efficient treatment possible.
